Zumbathon Fundraiser to benefit local community at Migoto Judo Chula Vista was a HIT!
Migoto Judo Dojo, a not-for-profit Dojo dedicated to teaching local youngsters not just Judo, but respect, discipline and physical fitness, held a Zumba-Thon on Saturday July 16th. The event featured one of South San Diego county’s most popular Zumba coaches Julie Piansay, Zumba Certified. The two hour event let the parents, friends, family and even complete strangers attracted by the large “Zumbathon – This Way” signs the opportunity to Zumba for two straight hours for just $10, less than the cost of two 1-hour sessions held at other facilities in the area. This fundraiser, which promoted a healthy lifestyle, fit perfectly with the mission of Migoto.
Migoto is raising funds to provide scholarships for local judo students to attend state and national competitions in the coming year. Rolando Fernando, President of Migoto Judo Dojo, was skeptical when first approached with the idea of a Zumbathon by Cherry Reyes Magpusao, a parent with two students currently enrolled at Migoto. However, the event was so successful that plans are now in the works to hold a Zumbathon at least once a year, perhaps once a quarter.
“The great thing about this fundraiser is that people are paying for something they already want to do; paying exactly what they would have to pay elsewhere, and all the proceeds are going to a good cause,” says Evelyn Mones, one of the volunteers that helped with registering people for the event.
To ensure that Judo is accessible to everyone with a passion to work hard Migoto offers some of the lowest cost access in Southern California. Currently, prices are just $50/month for the first family member, and $25/ month for each additional member. A family with four kids only needs to budget $100/month. Ron and Edith Torres have all four of their kids enrolled for less each month than most Dojo’s charge for a single student.
