Last week at the 2002 U.S. Open in Las Vegas, we were fortunate to have
two guests: Mr. Juan Carlos Barcos, the IJF Referee Director from Spain,
and Mr. Carlos Diaz, the Pan American Judo Union Referee Director from
Venezuela. They worked together to put on a clinic for all of the
referees to update us on the new IJF rules and modifications.

Summaries and examples of the new rules and modifications are available
at the following:
“http://www.pju.org/nuevo/nuevasreglasarbitraje2002eng.htm”. There are
also documents that can be downloaded.

We would also like to say “Thank you very much” to all those who
participated in the fund raising to bring these key individuals to the
U.S. Open. It was effective in establishing a good relationship with them
and U.S. Judo. In the long run, this will bring benefit to many USJF
members.

Thank you very much.

Noboru Saito
President, USJF
