I am saddened to report the passing of Ralph Reyes, national referee and long time friend to many in all segments of the judo community. Ralph produced many national champions at the Jamie Towers Judo Club where he was the head instructor, traveled with them around the country, and provided referee services everywhere he went.

I first met Ralph at the AM/CAN Challenge in the mid 70’s and shortly thereafter he brought an excellent team to our Kittyhawk Invitational in Dayton, OH. Several of his students went on to Cumberland College in those earlier years and helped establish that program as a powerhouse in the collegiate judo community.

He could be seen at many national events over the years providing, in his unassuming way, refereeing support which benefited the competitors and tournament organizers alike. He brought opportunity, excellent training and support to his students.

Ralph provided much to the judo community and will be greatly missed.

Good Bye Ralph – It was an honor to have known you!
